There is truth in advertising when it comes to the dental bridge because it does exactly as its name suggests – bridging the gap left behind when a tooth falls out, is knocked out, or has to be extracted due to disease or trauma.

At Magnolia Park Dental in Coppell, Texas, we are excellent “bridge-builders.” We use only the finest materials and precision planning to craft a bridge that holds up well for many years. We also provide exceptional guidance on how to care for bridges. You deserve to enjoy this investment in your smile and yourself for as long as possible, and we can help you get the most out of your new bridge.

How do you build a bridge?

The dental bridge comprises at least one artificial tooth and two crowns. These three pieces are joined together as one unit to become the dental bridge. The bridge is fixed securely to the teeth on either side of the gap. These teeth then function as anchors to retain the bridge/replacement tooth. Once in place, the bridge fills the empty space to rebuild your complete, healthy, and fantastic-looking smile.

How many teeth can be replaced with a bridge?

There is no set number, but generally, bridges are used to replace one tooth or a few teeth (up to four consecutive teeth). While there are many designs for bridges, it is important for Dr. Brady Camp to assess the condition of the remaining teeth. These teeth are necessary to properly support and anchor the bridge. So, if you are missing many teeth or have scattered gaps throughout your smile, another option, such as a partial or full denture, may be most appropriate.

How long does it take to get a bridge?

Bridges are generally completed in two visits. During the first visit, Dr. Camp slightly reduces and reshapes the anchor teeth. Then, information is collected about these teeth and your mouth. This info is used to make your bridge. During the second visit, Dr. Camp secures the bridge to the anchor teeth, filling the gap in your smile.

Is there special care with a bridge?

Bridges should generally be cared for like natural teeth, with good brushing and flossing. However, we can recommend special floss products to help clean the tight space that may be created underneath the bridge. These products include tiny interdental brushes or floss threaders. As long as this area remains free of bacteria and plaque, the anchor teeth and the remaining tissues around them stay healthy. Your bridge can hold up well for many years with consistently thorough home care and regular checkups at our office in Coppell, TX.
