We don’t compromise when it comes to patient safety and satisfaction:
FAQs about metal-free fillings
Relationships blossom at Magnolia Park Dental. These relationships are based on trust — that all of the techniques, services, technologies, and materials we use have been carefully selected by Dr. Brady Camp for their safety and effectiveness. Notably, our patients from across the Coppell and Greater Dallas, Texas, area know that their restorations are made from only the highest quality, most biocompatible (tissue-friendly) materials. These include tooth-colored, metal-free dental fillings as an alternative to conventional silver-colored amalgam.
What is amalgam?
This is what you likely know as the “silver” or metal filling. “Amalgam” refers to a combination of metals that are used to make the filling. They include silver, as well as copper, tin, and mercury. There are health concerns associated with metal alloys leaking into the bloodstream and then affecting distant organs and systems of the body. In addition to potential health threats, the silver appearance of these fillings presents cosmetic challenges. We have a better, more attractive, and safer option in the form of tooth-colored composites.
What are composites?
Dental composites are resins that are specially formulated to mimic the appearance of natural tooth enamel. Dr. Camp can also match the color of this material. So, it blends in with the rest of the tooth and the neighboring teeth. No one has to know your teeth have been treated because composites look like your natural tooth structure – no unsightly dark spots in your smile. You will be proud to show off your cavity-free smile!
How long do composites last?
Dental fillings made from composite can last for many years with good care. They also do not pose additional threats to overall or systemic health and are a risk-free alternative for patients with metal sensitivities and allergies. With these durable and non-toxic materials, you have peace of mind.
Are tooth-colored fillings the best option for all cavities?
It depends. If you have larger cavities, more support or structure may be necessary. We are happy to discuss your options during a consultation at our office in Coppell, Texas.
How long does it take to repair a cavity?
Cavities can be treated in just one appointment. During your visit, the damaged tooth is cleaned out. The composite is “prepared” and then introduced to the hole or cavity caused by the decay process. Lastly, the filling is secured to the tooth. The tooth is fully numbed as we fill the cavity, so it is both a painless and efficient process.
